The Entertation Index: August 24

August 24, 2009

Brown, Dan — Doubleday has announced that the e-book of Dan Brown’s upcoming The Lost Symbol will release online the same day as the hardcover version of the book. This is great news for you, because when your mom tells you this is her book club’s selection of the month, which — trust me — she will,  you can just give her the hardcover copy rather than spend four hours explaining to her what an “e-book” is.

Characters, Tarantino — With Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds blowing up the box office this weekend, check out this list of the top ten Tarantino characters, along with key scenes. Whether you agree or disagree, it’s a hell of a conversation-starter.

Cyrus, Miley — People Magazine and CNN ran with a lead, breaking entertainment story today of pop singer Miley Cyrus spotted “full-on making out” with 18 year-old Australian boyfriend Liam Hemsworth at a Nashville airport. If you missed this story, you clearly were not clicking on People nor CNN’s menu bar heading of “Super-creepy News About Kids Covered by Adult Reporters.”

GaGa, Lady — Surprisingly, there is no Lady GaGa news this morning. You have the day off.

Lohan, Lindsay — The non-starlet threw a fit in a Manhattan deli late last week after she left her cell phone and, upon returning to claim it, found a deli employee unwilling to give it back. According to sources, the employee asked for proof that it was Lohan’s phone before allowing her to have it. After waiting several hours and receiving no calls from anyone in Hollywood, it was clear the phone belonged to Lohan.

Scorsese, Martin —  Paramount Pictures has announced that due to the recession, the latest Martin Scorsese film Shutter Island, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, will not release in 2009 as previously planned, but will be shelved until a later date. Oh, quit you’re crying. It’s just not enough for you that Paramount Pictures already made room in their very precious yearly budget to bring you Dance Flick, Imagine That and Hotel for Dogs. You have to have Martin Scorsese too. Nothing Paramount does is good enough for you, is it?

Zombie, Rob — When this week’s guerilla trailer for Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 leaked, Zombie says he was happy because he hated the studio trailers for the movies, claiming he was “pissed” and wrote a letter to the marketing department reading “I f–ing hate these trailers and these TV spots.”  If you’re worried about spoilers, Rob, fear not. Some of us do remember that Halloween 2 was already made once, in 1981. Don’t worry, I won’t spill any spoilers to Dimension Films’ giant audience of 16 year-olds who only know Jamie Lee Curtis for promoting yogurt that makes you poop.
