My Random Wishlist for 2011
December 30, 2010
In no particular order, here are a few things I’d like to see happen (or stop happening) in 2011:
Movies:
- While Christopher Nolan has done a fantastic job with the Batman franchise, I’d like more Inceptions and fewer caped crusades.
- Will the Broken Lizard gang make something that’s equal to or better than Super Troopers ? While I agree with many of Lloyd’s points in his TBTS review of The Slammin’ Salmon, I felt the movie was shockingly flat. The premise was better suited for a sketch (and a short one) than a feature-length film. I’ve liked the other movies, mostly, but ever-diminishing returns give me a feeling of dread that I’ll one day have to quit the BL club for richer comedic pastures.
- Can Terry Gilliam finally get Man of La Mancha made? Fingers crossed, but not tightly.
- Let’s speed up the making of Henson, a movie chronicling the life and accomplishments of a soft-spoken puppeteer named Jim.
Music:
- I fervently hope that David Bowie comes out of semi-/pseudo-retirement, records a new album with Tony Visconti, and tours again. If he could also revive Mark Ronson and bring him along, that’d be great. I miss the glittering trash that was Ronson’s guitar work with the Spiders from Mars.
- Jimmy Page should put out a heavy blues-based record on Jack White’s Third Man Records and ask Black Mountain to back him. Watching It Might Get Loud convinced me that Jimmy needs to go back to move forward, and I can think of no one other than White to make that happen.
- Somebody needs to stop that Train.
TV:
- Community must continue its run of excellence; the creators and writers must also know when to quit when it’s time.
- O please let the plug be pulled on The Office. It’s time. It’s past time.
- Bad Girls Club and Toddlers and Tiaras both need to be shut down, pronto. They both are bad for women, bad for children, just plain bad for everyone.
Books/Comics:
- Please, Neil Gaiman, produce a sequel to American Gods…”Monarch of the Glen” just wasn’t enough for me. Oh, and by the way, let’s not have a movie adaptation of AG, unless Chris Nolan directs it (damn it; I couldn’t resist).
- How about a comic adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian (joking joking…sort of[?])
Sports:
- All the football I need I get from watching The League. Sing it with me: Shiva…kaminisoma Kandarkramshiva…Kaminisomakandarkram! Hey!
- Basketball, pt. 1: I don’t want to see the Miami Heat win a championship for at least two years. At least. It’ll happen, but I don’t want it to happen any time too soon. That’s no way to do it, ‘Bron. I want to see you have to work for it like everyone else did.
- Baseball…is dead to me. I hate to say it.
- Basketball, pt. 2: Inexplicably, I’m a fan of both the Celtics and (gasp!) the Lakers again. Whodathunkit?
Thanks for indulging me this randomness. Happy New Year, e’erbody!
