The Entertation Index: April 7

April 7, 2011

Art, Chinese — During a major art auction in Hong Kong on Sunday, the Chinese contemporary art market saw a victory as oil painter Zhang Xiaogang’s acclaimed work “Forever Lasting Love” sold for a whopping $10.1 million dollars. The painting has already been lent to the United States.

Folles, La Cage Aux — The timeless, gender-bending French farce La Cage Aux Folles, which recently starred Kelsey Grammar and now features Harvey Fierstein, will be closing on Broadway this coming May after a lengthy run. While the show’s presence on the Great White Way will be missed, it should be noted that there are still plenty of transvestites who will take your money across town in New York City’s Meatpacking District.

The salad days.

Pattinson, Robert — After Pattinson arrived on the red carpet of the recent Country Music Awards without his Twilight co-star and girlfriend Kristen Stewart on his arm, rumors began to swirl that the pair’s relationship may be on the skids. That’s a shame — they both seem so happy.

Rock, 30 — In actual, non-snarky news, Alec Baldwin let slip during a recent interview that 2012 will in fact be the final season for the critically-acclaimed, multi-award winning single camera sitcom 30 Rock, as Baldwin plans to retire from acting and Fey allegedly plans on writing and directing more. Though it’ll be sad to see 30 Rock go, more shows should take the hint and quit while they’re ahead. Smart thinking.

Spears, Britney — The former Mouseketeer has found another chart-topper with her new album Femme Fatale, which has become her sixth album to reach the top of the Billboard charts. No one is more excited about this than Spears, who has fallen on lean times lately — but the accolades and profits they’ll bring will hopefully again step her up from regular Whoppers to Double Whoppers.

Spelling, Tori — Fashionistas from the UK’s Daily Mail, during a recent red carpet event for the Oxygen Network, noticed that Tori Spelling’s breast augmentation surgery may be faltering as she appeared to have one “deflated” breast with a “strange dent” in it. Make no mistake about it, however; the most depressing boob to come out of Beverly Hills 90210 is still Ian Ziering.

Univision — Last week, for the second time in a month, the Latino-centric television channel Univision garnered more prime time viewership than NBC, heralding a huge growth in the power of Hispanic entertainment programming. To combat this, NBC is expected to add a grown man dressed like a young child to The Event.
