The Entertation Index: January 5

January 5, 2012

Axe — Marketing minds behind Axe brand men’s grooming products have announced the creation of an online graphic novel which will unfold in real time as the brand’s customers suggest plotlines to the product’s website. Unfortunately, so far 99% of the comic’s suggestions from users have focused upon “that fat chick I banged” at the club, frat party or LMFAO concert.

Biel, Jessica — Us Magazine reports that pop superstar/actor/comedian Justin Timberlake has finally popped the question to longtime girlfriend Jessica Biel. Following the news, Biel released the following statement to the press: “Remember last month when I was feeling kind of on my way out, and I started mentioning everywhere that I’d do nudity if ‘the script was right?’ Never mind. I’m good.”

Dogg, Snoop — It’s been announced that as part of a special “celebrity week,” beloved hip hop artist Snoop Dogg will appear on long-running game show The Price is Right to vie for charity money. If his game includes guessing the price of chinese food, fritos, microwave burritos or funyuns, I’m pretty sure he has this in the bag.

James, LeBron — NBA star LeBron James proposed to girlfriend Savannah Brinson at the posh Shelbourne Hotel in South Beach on New Year’s Eve. Both were all giddy, as James started making lists of all the things they’ll need for the wedding and Brinson started making lists of all the things she’s going to get in the divorce.

Please watch this. It's good.

Portlandia — A public service announcement from The Brown Tweed Society: in case you were unaware, Portlandia — featuring SNL’s Fred Armisen and former Sleater-Kinney guitarist Carrie Brownstein — returns to IFC this Friday night. Seriously, gang, it’s incredibly smart and clever comedy, and if we all reward that by watching it, maybe it will lead to a world with less Tim Allen sitcoms and more stuff that’s really good. Check out the sketch below.

Swift, Taylor — The multi-award winning country-pop star has been cast as Eponine in the upcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, Eponine is the poor daughter of innkeepers who has a crush on the dashing Marius Pontmercy, who sees her only as a friend though she constantly hopes he’ll fall in love with her. So basically, Les Miserables is going to be just a regular music video for Taylor. Only she gets shot climbing a barricade during the French Revolution at the end.

I’m halfway through the first season of Portlandia and I’m loving it. Armisen and Brownstein are a witty duo and had me laughing from the opening sketch of the first season. I’m hooked! Glad to see them mentioned in the index. Looking forward to season 2!
