The Entertation Index: September 20

Adele The New York Times reports that multi-award-winning British singer Adele has recorded the titular theme song to the new James Bond film Skyfall, an honor granted to select great musicians of the past in the franchise’s oeuvre. No one has heard the tune yet, but it can be surmised that it is probably about Adele’s tumultuous breakup with the MI:6 superspy and how she doesn’t need him anymore.

Danza, Tony — At a press event promoting his new book, Taxi star Tony Danza opened up to reporters about a heretofore-unknown pen pal relationship he had with murdered rap artist Tupac Shakur which began when Shakur was in prison and consisted of back-and-forth correspondence between the two for quite some time. According to Danza the two became very close, all the more surprising when you take into consideration that Danza was originally hired by Shakur only to be his housekeeper.

Green, Cee Lo — Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, judges for the past two seasons of NBC’s well-promoted sing-off The Voice, have both announced that they will be leaving the program to spend more time on their own solo musical projects. Cee Lo would also like for everyone at The Voice to know that he wasn’t being rude and refusing to wave goodbye to the producers and staff — they just couldn’t see his very tiny arms gesturing from that far away.

Mann, Aimee — Torch singer Aimee Mann, who you might remember was also once known as pop star ‘Til Tuesday in the early eighties, nods to her former alter ego in the brilliant video for her new song “Labrador.” Directed by The Best Show’s Tom Scharpling, the video stars Mann, Jon Hamm, Ted Leo and former Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster in a shot-by-shot remake of Mann’s memorable ‘Til Tuesday video “Voices Carry,” and it’s the best thing you’ll see today. It’s also a phenomenal song. Check it out.

Obama, Barack — President Barack Obama, in the midst of fundraising for his 2012 election campaign, partied with hip-hop magnate and luscious pop superstar couple Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles at NYC’s shiek 40/40 Club on Tuesday at a soiree which included a floor-to-ceiling wall of gold champagne bottles valued at over $280,000 and saw the POTUS referring to the couple affectionately as “Jay” and “Bey.” Because that’s exactly the kind of humble, boring weeknight those sleeve-rolling “non-one-percenters” have.
